felt circle flower headband {tutorial}

remember this headband that little miss was wearing in this post?

well, i promised you a tutorial!

gather your supplies:
1 sheet of felt (got mine at Michaels)
glue gun
elastic for the band

to make the flower:
cut your felt into 4 circles. 3 will be different sizes for the flower itself, and 1 to add at the end.
i used measuring cups to do the circles, and then i cut them out a little off for the fun of it. crafting is not meant to be perfect.

next take a lighter to the edges of each circle to give them a more unique feel. I didn't photo this part for the obvious... needed to hold the lighter and the circle. no hands for the camera. and being that i try to only play with fire when my hubby isn't around to scrutinize me he wasn't there to help.

layer your flowers and put a dot of hot glue in between each layer.

now for the actual headband:
take your elastic and cut it. i used 13 inches and it fits great on my little ladies head great.

now, take your fourth circle and put a line of hot glue on it.

lay one end of your elastic halfway and then bring it around (being careful not to twist the band) and lay the other end on the other half of the hot glue.
add hot glue all over that circle and attach to the underside of your flower.
voila!! you are done.
i added a cute button, but a pearl or some sequins would be super cute too!!
all that's left is to take a picture of your cute little one wearing it!
as my son would say: "aww. so cute baby sister"

i have recently felt such a challenge in my stage of life. i want to do more.
i complain that i don't have enough time in my day to get things done.
laundry. floors. dishes. crafting. you name it.
but today my world has taken a shift. and i can't stop thinking about the fact that there is a different kind of "do more" i really need to be involved in.

i need to not just do more but "be more." and be apart of a group of people doing more.
so. i am doing more. and you can too. i have joined up with julie from joy's hope for their happy day project.

happy day
if you don't know julie and her adorable family you are really missing out. and by "know" i mean drool over her amazing ability to mix colors and her style, laugh at her hilariousness, or spill tears over the story of her sweet joy. and by "know" i mean have absolutely no relationship with her other than the one in your head and blog world. :)

you can click on the button to read more about the entire project. but we made up for day one & two today.

day one:
bring a treat to a neighbor. we are smudging the lines a little and taking it to daddy's firestation to share with the firefighters.
high class cookies. thank you pillsbury.
day two. write a note.
my boy loves to color, so i gave him the blank note card and we'll be sending that off to someone special. and i used the color one to write a card to this family.
go to that website and read. i then dare you to do nothing. there is no possible way you'll be able to. because we are called to do something. do more. we are called to love others. to give to those who need it.

my family has spent many a years in hospitals and dealt with many hospital bills. (i'll blog about that some day i'm sure.) so i understand that this wonderful family, going thru so much, could use a little extra love from complete strangers.
make a difference in their day. it may seem so small, but to them it means so much more.
do more friends. do more.

tomorrow is give a gift card to someone homeless. what will you give?
I'm thinking McDonalds, or Subway... now go out there and make a difference in someone's day.

fall wreath

whipped up this beauty while the little miss napped and the mr. mischief was at a b-day party with daddy.

not too bad if i do say so myself.
just used things i already had.
a dollar store wreath
fabric scraps to wrap it with
leaves from last years decorations

you can do so much with a glue gun and your imagination.
and time. if you have it. ha.

finished just in time too, 'cause my boobs are starting to throb...back to work. :)

there are good messes and there are, let's not say "bad" messes, but messy messes.

my house is full of them right now. full. of. them. (a little bit of both unfortunately)
case in point:
my table looked a whole lot cleaner for this post didn't it. ha.

i know it's my phase of life, with two kids under 3...there's not a ton of free time.
and, usually i would have such a hard time with the messes.
my craft room...a total disaster. i don't mind creative chaos, but holy moly this is a little crazy.

but. i find myself totally not caring anymore. i know it will get done.

because, honestly, this kinda mess is way more important.

i know i'm called to be a keeper of my home and it's very important that i find balance in this crazy time of life. but there is nothing more important that i am called to do than love my husband and raise my children. and, i could care less about dirty dishes in the sink when my son says he wants to play trains with me.

i've had some wiser older women in my life tell me that it's all about one thing. getting one thing done a day (if you do more that's great, but only strive for one). i think that's a great goal for right now. and i need to remember that it's a perfectly acceptable goal.

there is an amount of grace involved in this phase of life. i may not get it all done, but i will use as many '15 min miracles' as i can to work thru the mess. and if i don't get it all done it's okay because i played with my son today, was encouraged by some much needed words, and spent a little time for me.

i hope you get to enjoy some time today for all the important things! even if that includes the dishes...
